The Bush Years CBC Documentary

Posted by Jeff Hoard | Thursday, October 30, 2008 | , , , , | 2 comments »

It feels like Bush is already gone, don't worry he's still angering Muslims all over the world. were close though, less then a week till election day.

This Bush guy was a mess, a complete mistake, check out this snippet from the documentary, about Bush and head of Al Zawahiri This is beyond fucked up. Full Doc follows.

Crazy eh! Now be a hero and vote it up on Reddit!

This Documentary blew my mind, in fact, everything George Bush related blows my mind, I for one can't wait for him to be gone from the world stage. I look forward to seeing for once in my life short life just what America can do with an intelligent leader in charge. After all the wars and calamities of the last 8 years, I'll be happy to see a steady hand in charge, maybe instead of making problems America will fix some.

CBC Documentary - The Bush Years

Leading up to the American presidential election, CBC Documentary Unit producer Terence McKenna takes a retrospective look at U.S. President George W. Bush, arguably one of the most controversial public figures

Some might think this is bizarre but apparently "Candidate Documentaries" are common before elections. This one was shot by Davis Guggenheim, the guy who brought us Deadwood.

Bush is Back Baby

Posted by Jeff Hoard | Tuesday, October 28, 2008 | , , | 0 comments »

Just as you were getting swept away in the magic of Barack Obama's fairytale journey to the White House, Bush got bored, he might have been sad that nobody went to see his biopic.

Back in September Bush attacked inside Pakistan and nobody noticed, surely nobody will notice this attack inside Syria.

Well Syria isn't too happy about it.

BBC: Syria hits out at 'terrorist' US

Syria's foreign minister has accused the US of an act of "criminal and terrorist aggression" over what it says was a helicopter raid on its territory.

Walid Muallem said Sunday's attack saw four US aircraft travel eight miles inside Syrian airspace from Iraq and kill eight unarmed civilians on a farm

Reason 74 Wasilla is a Dive

Posted by Jeff Hoard | Sunday, October 26, 2008 | , , , | 0 comments »

Reason number 74 out of 101. Palin has been preaching recently that Small town America is the best America...well... I've been to small towns, and I like 'em too, they have character. However after watching this video (and others), Wasilla Alaska is probably the exact opposite of how a "Small Town" should look, its a dive, the meth capitol of Alaska. Lets check out the "character" (or lack there-of) of Sarah Palin's small town, Wasilla Alaska.

Lots of crazy coverage from this crazy town is starting to surface thanks to Palin, the Wasilla Mahalo Archive is bulking up because of it, hopefully someday we'll have an in depth page like this for every small town.

----------
This video is Archived, it is certainly a turning point in history and will probably be analyzed and argued over by pundits in the year 2108.

This Video doesn't seem to get old... every time I watch it I see something new. Todd pointing out Alaska is funny, the bullet riddled moose is awesome. But watching how Sarah looks increasingly uncomfortable with each passing second is priceless.

I watch... I can see how hard Palin is trying to act, it's sad, but she tries. Her banter with Sudeikis is interesting, the role she chose for herself appears to be to act all cool as if she DID do the rap backstage, this doesn't help her case because by acting all cool and opting out of what was rehearsed makes it appear as if she's a bitch, by putting the 8 month pregnant Amy Poehler on the spot like that. Anyway I feel as if this is the Nail in the Coffin moment, if not, her $150,000 shopping spree will certainly piss off a few poor Joe Plumbers...Oh...she still doesn't know what a VP does either.

Jon Stewart says Fuck You to Sarah Palin

Posted by Jeff Hoard | Tuesday, October 21, 2008 | , | 0 comments »

Here is a portion of Today's Daily Show, I thought this segment needed its own Post.
Jon Stewart is really upset with some things that Sarah Palin said...lets listen to what she said first. Or just skip to the third clip down and you'll hear it straight from Stewart, along with his profanity laced response.

October 20, 2008: Pfriend or Pfoe?
Jon Stewart touches on Powell's endorsement, and Nancy Pfotenhauer..who I believe is only on the campaign because of her non google friendly name. Ah.. and Sarah Palin gets a good BOO from the crowd here. over her "Real America" comments. The scary republican woman trifecta is complete when Stewart touches on Michele McCarthy Bachmann.

You think Jon Ripped into here in this clip...he's got a big "Fuck You" for Palin in this sketchy clip caught on a cell phone camera as he spoke in Boston...Huffington Post provided the transcript.

"She said that small towns, that's the part of the country she really likes going to because that's the pro-America part of the country. You know, I just want to say to her, just very quickly: [expletive] you," Stewart said to raucous applause.

Palin addressed a North Carolina fund-raiser Thursday night saying, "We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. We believe...that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, very pro-America areas of this great nation."

The comment was quickly picked up by media outlets and the Obama campaign, whose spokesman Bill Burton asked in an e-mail to reporters, "What part of the country isn't pro-America?"
...
"I can't take it anymore...After eight years of this divisiveness, we're back to this idea that only small-town America is the real America," he said.

This clip caused quite a stir at the Weekly Standard, William Kristols publication, Jon Stewart addressed this controversy at the end of the show. Your Profanity meet My Profanity: "Fuck all of you!" Gotta love Jonny!

October 20, 2008: Governor Palin Clarification

Here is the latest Daily Show for October 20, 2008!

City boy Jon Stewart took great offense to Palin and Republicans dividing the American by talking about how small towns are "Real Americans". You can watch that segment here.

October 20, 2008: Understanding Real America in Wasilla
This is a Golden Clip, Jason Jones visits Wasilla, this is the Second Jason Jones Wasilla sketch, the last time it was to watch the VP Debate at a pub with Wasillians. This time he speaks with the current Mayor of Wasilla, Dianne M. Keller. A real bright one this lady is, Sarah Palin endorsed her as her replacement when here Mayoral term ended in 2002, NYT even has a photo of them and and article that tells you all about it.

Sarah Palin sided instead with Dianne M. Keller, a religious conservative and an ally on the City Council. Ms. Keller won.

Obama Wins: Now What?

Posted by Jeff Hoard | Monday, October 20, 2008 | | 0 comments »

America seems to have been shut down the last two years, no fresh ideas, nothing new, same wars, same enslaving corporations and the same fear mongering. The entire world is praying Obama will win, soon America will realize what a huge positive turning point COULD be for only for America but maybe even the idea of "freedom" in general, it's a huge win.

So I'm crossing my fingers, and after he wins, I hope he really does deliver on the "hope" because the world is pretty fucked up right now and could use a historical figure to get us out of it.

We know he has to do something huge and quick and that has to mute all of his criticizers, in other words he has to do something that would even make Sean Hannity love him.

(Hannity Hates Obama, but Millions watch him everyday broadcasting crap like this below, here are some links about Hannity's "Expert" from this clip, Andy Martin)

Catch Osama in your first Year, that'll shut up the attack media and prove he means business, Obama needs to catch Bin Laden, or at least find the body and solve the mystery. With Bin Laden dead, Barack could Broadcast a message of Peace throughout the Muslim world saying "Sorry about the last guy, we got what we needed, were out of here, we'll send in a cleaning crew right away". Far fetched, right, I know, but this is my crazy fantasy, write your own if you don't like it.

If Obama catches Bin Laden he can instantly end the "Wars" all three (Afghanistan, Iraq, Terrorism) or at least Declare victory and spin America back into its post 9/11 Patriotism again, America can start reconstruction in Iraq and turn the military/security operation into a "peacekeeping" operation, with happy allies from Nato and the UN.

(Barack Speaking at DNC Winter Meetings Feb 07, mentions ending war)

So Barack has now captured Bin Laden, ended the war on terrorism, replaced some of the US Military in both Afghanistan and Iraq with International troops. Now what?

Tens of thousands of American troops are now back in the US and they are probably looking for work. Well, time for the Barack-apollo program

By the end of Barack's first term, war is over, America's economy is fixed and everybody in the country has a job in the new energy sector, America becomes the worlds HUB for new technology and the workforce behind it. As a bonus the projects also will fix the worlds pollution and eco problems, nobody even cares to argue Global Warming because the economy is benefiting from fixing it. What a concept, cleaning up the place eh, this will probably make people healthier too, but what if you do get sick? Oh yeah, health care will be overhauled first term, over hauled to benefit everybody, not just the big companies but everybody in the new American workforce.

America will develop a new fondness and perhaps understanding for Europeans and Canadians after they reap the benefits of good health care, a higher age expectancy, and the new concept of "Peace of Mind" in regards to your medical bills. America with all their Western friends will spark a new technological and philosophical Golden Age it would be beginning of the greatest technological enlightenment of the all time, I am sure.

Whats left for his 2nd term? End Global poverty?

I just found this out, thanks to this handy blog post, I'm just re-posting it here for future reference.

Check this out, you can skip directly to a specific portion of a youtube clip. Test it out with the clip below, when you hit play should jump directly to 3:56 into the video.

How did I do it? Well...take your everyday YouTube embed code and add "&start=20" behind a couple portions of code (see text box below). Replace "20" with the number of seconds into the clip that you want to jump to, so in the clip below I went to 3:56 Into the clip, that's 236 seconds.

Here is Louis CK in a recent interview with Conan O'Brian. He rants about how kids complain these days about things like Flying...your FUCKING FLYING..5 Hours to LA, not that long ago it would take 30 years with a chance of dying. Equally funny is how he explains he's a bad father.

(....^is it me, or is that YouTube still looks more clear then how they usually look.)

B. 911 Call
I love this clip, I remember it from not that long ago, its one you can picture happening (especially myself who worked in a call center for 4 years) The ending is everything you want it to be.

C. The Catholic Church
Louis CK who was raised Catholic until 10 years old, doesn't know anything about it, so he walked into a chuch and started asking questions. It's also the 2nd highest rated Louis CK clip on VideoSift.

D. Here is is doing a Segment on Comic Relief 2006. Great standup!

D. Finally, Louis CK being interviewed by our favourite... Jon Stewart. This interview is from 2006, there is another from 2007 here..

See.. in that Clip and if you watched the Debate, Obama explained his association with Ayers, he said laid it out, very simple. Obama and other high ranking people all sat on a charitable board together with William Ayers, who is a reformed radical, who now apparently teaches and does charitable work. BUT just tonight, even after the debate John McCain is still acting like its a conspiracy, its fucked up, he's scaring people into thinking Barack is a terrorist, its the lowest of the low in Politics that I've ever seen in my short life. Here he is on Letterman, talking about Obama and Ayers again as if we "still need answers" what more is there to know? is he waiting for Obama to admit that he's a "secret agent muslim"? what a joke.

Yes. Joe the Plumber, the Plumber who is actually not a licensed plumber, already owes back taxes, referred to Obama as "Sammy Davis Jr." and who is about $200,000 dollars away from actually being effected from Obama's Tax plan.

New Mahalo Design Feedback

Posted by Jeff Hoard | Thursday, October 16, 2008 | | 0 comments »

I was away for Canadian Thanksgiving last weekend and missed out on Jason Calacanis unveiling the new Mahalo. The new design is something I've been excited about for awhile and I must say it looks great. Take a look for yourself.

One of the Mahalo Tech guys, Chris Finke, explains why you might find it so impressive pretty well here...

The old Mahalo homepage had, at any given moment, between 8 and 10 content images. (By "content images," I'm referring to images that are not design elements, like backgrounds or logos.)
The new Mahalo homepage, which packs much more data into the same space, has at any given moment, between 75 and 80 content images. (This isn't obvious from a screenshot due to the number of tabbed sections; for example, in the top left section, each of the five tabs contains 10 items, each of which usually contains an image.)

So the front page is work of genius and art. Where I have been putting all my energy in Mahalo is to making sure the content within the Archives is top quality. I've always looked at each page as convenient place for users to find quick information about anything they search for. The Old Serp design was immaculate in its simplicity and design. My one complaint is with the new Serp design dropped all the dividers. Take a look at the Doctor Zoidberg Serp with the New Design.

For me it's very difficult to read and to understand what is going on. The blocks of text, the picture, the videos, the list, the links, the adds, no division its all erratic on my end and in great need of deciphering. With this new Serp design, a hate to say it, but I am lost. I think going back to the original dividing the Guide note from the Links would do users a great service.

Without a divider:

With a divider:

You may have noticed in the screenshot with the divider I also snuck out the 1st Google ad. I know ads make the world go 'round, but the top add right now really jumbles up the page for me. I am afraid of the users who hit our pages now see Ads before Content (without the guide note divider I am no longer drawn to the note..but to these ads)

I would love to see Mahalo fight off the temptation to putting Google text Ads above the Mahalo Top 7 I just hate seeing ads before our Links. Of course I shouldn't be touching that, we need to make money right? I would love to see a the day when classy companies are paying premiums to sponsor our beautiful Archives.

Otherwise, ads aside, I think the Devs did a great job and crazy big kudos to them.

Joe the Plumber Facts

Posted by Jeff Hoard | Wednesday, October 15, 2008 | , , | 1 comments »

Boy, Joe the Plumber became a crazy central figure during the debate tonight. So the guy appears to be getting taxed for earning more then $250,000, I thought McCain made a pretty big deal of turning Joe the Plumber into his last hope to win this election, if he can get the Joe Six Pack er Plumber vote, he just might turn this thing around.

My only question was...How many Small Businesses earn more then $250,000 a year? That's a lot of plumbing. However Joe the Plumber is only going to be in the company of 4% of Business owners, the only 4% that earn more then $200,000/year. In fact 88% earn less then $100,000 and those are the ones who will be getting a good break.

the plumber told Obama he was considering buying a company that would earn more than $250,000 a year. Obama conceded that, under his plan, taxes for that company would increase. The vast majority of small business owners, however, break even or make a relatively small profit; their taxes would not increase under Obama's plan. Of nearly 20 million small business tax returns filed annually, only about 4 percent report taxable income of $200,000 or more, and nearly 88 percent report earnings of less than $100,000, according to Internal Revenue Service data. Fact-checking Obama's and McCain's assertions in final debate

I love this clip, btw, McCain said something about Joe getting fined or something, I wasnt really paying attention. But Barack is giving a ZERO dollar fine Joe! and McCain is totally caught in the headlights with this one, it looks like he's watching an infomercial and is just amazed..Zero!

Update..and Keith has much more about Joe the Plumber

It seems the only time this chick speaks to media is in "gotcha" settings. This video is mind blowing on so many levels, its very hard to explain, but give it a whirl, this video might be one to remember. I Hate Global Warming

Posted by Jeff Hoard | Friday, October 10, 2008 | , , | 3 comments »

Global Warming is our biggest challenge as people in our times, personally I'm well beyond the debate, I'm no scientist but I get the fuckin picture - Humans are fucking up the planet. The media and politicians debating the issue is really what I hate here.

Al Gore thinks its real.
George Bush think it's up for debate.
Sarah Palin says she doesn't care, but she does, she is incredibly connected to the Oil Industry, like, to the point where she was praying for oil pipelines and Energy deals. Like honestly praying to God for them. Do you pray for gas lines? This video below is of Palin doing just that.

The argument continues to dominate, for each crooked scientist and politician Big Oil pays off the debate is given a few more years of fuel. This is a distracting. The Corporate media is in on the act, they create an atmosphere where you have pick a side (a distraction I say). They do that, and while the ignorant public is distracted, fisheries collapse, mammals and birds go extinct... Blah blah animals, habitats, hippies, blah, basically The worst case scenario involves water shortages and/or a climate shift that will completely change geography as we know it.

Humans are fucking up the planet and I get nervous about that. Sure, I recycle and have nice energy efficient lightbulbs, but fuck this is a bigger problem than me. It's a bigger problem than the USA, than Canada, than Britian. It's a global problem, and I'd hate to see what happens if it's not contained and fixed asap. Some politicians want to wait for China and India? That has got to be the worst excuse.

Perhaps we are living in that religious fantasy of a world full or wars, death and destruction, is our only hope Jebbus? Fuck. Sarah Palin thinks Jesus will be coming back during her lifetime (she does) and I will start to believe her too, especially if loons like her continue to run the fucking world.

Conversations these days should not be about whether Global Warming is real or not, they should be about the solutions that will fix the "lack of resources to sustain our population" problem, you know, Energy, Food, Water. Honestly, whatever it takes to keep the lights on, the food on the table and the water clean and plentiful; that should be the #1 priority of government. The direction we seem to be headed in right now is one where our resources run dry, they've been saying this for years.

Would you rather invest crazy Amounts like $700 Billion or $1 Trillion on things like "Wallstreet Bailouts" and "Wars on Terror" or...

This is why I would like to see Barack Obama lead in America. I hope that once he's in office, there is no more debating, they just get started on this "Barack-Apollo Program" to save the world and their economy. Can you imagine the amount of new jobs you can create once you start the New Energy Revolution? batteries, solar panels, crazy cars..fuck anything, vertical farming! Jet Packs! He wants America to lead in the manufacturing of the products that the world will need in the Future, sounds like surefire way to make money. Especially if your administration is setting the bar for what products the world needs to function properly, and that all just sounds like common sense me, but I'm a crazy guy.

There are so many ideas and products already out there that are lined up and ready to be manufactured to save the world. The problem they can solve is the "lack of resources to sustain our population", let's get started shall we?...oh.. or we sticking with that whole "all our money goes into war and security"? My apologies if I'm out-of-touch.

Who knows we might be 1 month away from a real World Leader, the Barack-Apollo Program could really be the "Game-Changer" America needs to lead the world again towards to brighter future.

God Speed America, I look much forward to an internet less polluted with American Politics stories.

Build a W. Movie Trailer

Posted by Jeff Hoard | Monday, October 06, 2008 | , , | 0 comments »

Not sure if anybody else has played around with this, W(the Olive Stone George W. Bush Movie) is coming to theaters soon and the movie company has created YouTube channel, check out this channel, its unlike anything I have seen before, there appears to be some clever internet magic behind this channel, you can clip up the W. Trailer and create your own W. The Movie mashup trailer. They seem to take it to the next level as you can mash in classic Bush moments that are readily available, you can add Music and you can even upload your own clips to add to the trailer.

I gave it a whirl, but I suck, the audio in one portion is off enough to be noticed.
I tried to call it "The Last Fascist" but it seemed to reject that title, so I named it "Worst 8 Years in America" proved me right by making the next 8 good years. I love you America, but Bush didn't do much for your countries international credibility. Mahalo has Bush Legacy Archive looking for links. Here is my trailer.

The Top Social News stories have been posted for October 6.

However I feel the most interesting portion of the October 6 page is the video I was able to embed into the "Historical Events" section, it was concluded exactly four years ago today that a report found there were no WMD's in Iraq. That's why America went to war, and four years later after that fact they are still at war. Incredible.

Bush thinks it's funny.

Tina Fey may have just ended Sarah Palin's post debate "thunder." Few comedic performance change history, perhaps this SNL Sketch will be one of them?

+The Guy playing Biden is Jason Sudeikis and he deserves equal credit for the hilarity of this clip, he does a timeless job, this clip is a solid from top to bottom.

Latest Drunk History Episode

One of favourite discoveries on the Web is Drunk History. The latest segment tells the story of William Henry Harrison, the 9th President of the USA, however his presidency was short lived, as explained.

Not the best episode, that's for sure, after watching the 4 previous episodes, I think you'll agree this one rates at the bottom, check out the other episodes here.

Eye Candy for Atheists

Posted by Jeff Hoard | Saturday, October 04, 2008 | , , , , | 1 comments »

Kalane and I went to see Religulous tonight on opening day. I am a huge Bill Maher fan and ever since I heard he was going to release a documentary about Atheism, I've been pretty eager to see it. I first heard about it well over a year ago now.

Anyway, I saw it, it was exactly how I expected it to be - Bill Maher traveling around talking to religious people and telling em they are nuts - And thats what it was, for two hours. There are highlights however, I laughed my ass off when Bill Maher ranted about Scientology in Hyde Park.

Anyway, the whole documentary reminded me of the all the great Atheist Eye Candy I have seen across the web in my Day. Online video has really brought videos about Atheism to a wide audience, you simply don't see anything about non-religious people in media and in the news. So when I first came across Johnathan Miller's Brief History of Disbelief, I was thrilled, what a mind blowing experience.

Miller is cool, and that documentary was smart. BBC this is content you just don't get on our 100+ channels, even if your 100+ TV has BBC, what are the odds you would stumble into the program. The Internet, bam, its there. A great documentary, I recommend.

When Root of all Evil and the Virus of Faith hit the net a couple years ago, Atheism exploded, suddenly Harris, Dennet, Hitchens and of course Dawkins are best sellers, Atheism started to even get mentioned in the mainstream. Crazy I know. Anyway the Dawkins documentaries went straight for the heart of organized religion and called it abuse. The Root of All Evil got some additional life and value after the Ted Haggard scandal broke.

Also on my Top Atheist Eye Candy list from the past couple years is Brian Flemming's The God who Wasn't there.

And Penn and Teller's The Bible is Bullshit episode.

James Burke Connections

Posted by Jeff Hoard | Friday, October 03, 2008 | , , | 0 comments »

Mahalo is fun work, fun enough so that even in my spare time I find ways to continue working on the site. Tonight we decided to get into some James Burke and flipped it over to Connections, not long ago we built pages for "The Day the Universe Changed" each episode is broken down minute by minute so that you can get links to each important historical place, name and event that James Burke mentions in the series. The Pages were such a success James Burke himself emailed me his approval.

Well we started over with Connections.

Here is Part 3 of Episode one, which is just a quick example of what you get with these episode guides. It's going to be a great series and I hope you follow along.

Names and Events in Part Three

  • @0:57: After about 90 minutes stuck on a dark subway panic begun.
  • @2:35: The next day, the power was back on, and everything went back to normal.
  • @4:00: James Burke describes a hypothetical scenario of what happens when technology fails and society erupts into mayhem.
  • @4:30: So you left the city to escape the mayhem, now what?
  • Do you know where to go in order to survive?
  • Do you have a map?
  • How do you get out? Walk? Drive until you run out of fuel?
  • Have you considered the millions of people behind you, also trying to survive?
  • Can you protect yourself?
  • Did you bring enough food and water?
  • Where will you get it? steal it?
  • @5:49: The best place to find in this situation would be a farm.
  • @7:24: Yet everything on the modern farm needs electricity.
  • @9:10: If you're lucky, you may find a basic plow, but once challenged to use it, the average person may realize how much they depend on technology.
  • @9:35: It was the plow that triggered the modern technological revolution.

Lots important names and events have yet to be Archived on Mahalo, so while we go through we'll at least get some of those pages started and in the system. For example above the link to "Survival Skills" is not a full Mahalo page yet, however its a term we certainly can build a page for. Another example is in part 4, Burke introduces us to the Step Pyramid of Djoser. Hardly a popular search term, but a fascinating piece of this world, I am sure there are lots of great links out there. Anyway.. I'll keep you posted, these pages take a lot of time to build and the power of two of us, so stay tuned.

Pretty interesting NHL Ad campaign, 4 clips, you get Crosby, Lundqvist, Kane and Phaneuf. I've begun a new Mahalo Archive for "NHL Advertisements", there have been so many great ones of the year I am sure a great collection could be built. I generally only like advertisements as long as they are marketing to me, in this case it's hockey. I'm looking forward to the upcoming season, my Montreal Canadians are looking strong, it been a long time since the Habs have been favourites going into a season.
